Have you been to a tailor in Chicago? If so, I would appreciate if you could tell me; as I have yet to fully venture out and look around, and just wanted to know a little bit beforehand possibly.

I’ve been to two in Chicago. One of them was recommended by my friends at Rugby (they all go there) but I did not like the service I received upon my visit. The other was recommended by a friend/coworker, and I’ve gotten two jackets and three pants done there. The tailor’s daughter even drove to my work and hand delivered my suit jacket.

Some cheap places to shop in Chicago.

You asked for it!

  • Urban Outfitters Surplus store - Clark/Fullerton

I went there a couple of months ago and saw a pair of Cheap Monday jeans for $13. That’s nothing compared to CM’s full retail price. They also have a lot of full priced UO items there at an extremely low price. Not to mention they had the Diana 35mm kit for $20 a couple of months ago. I believe this is the only UO Surplus store in the country.

  • Ragstock - Boystown, Wicker Park

There are two locations for this shop and I am going to say I have never been to the Boystown location, but the one I went to Wicker Park was pretty fun. My friend and I went there last winter to look for ugly sweaters and they had a lot of cute stuff.

  • Never Mind - Sheffield/Belmont

This is a fairly small store - imagine F21 but more feminine? I actually discovered this place today and they’re not bad. Most of their clothes range from $15 to $40.

  • Threadless - Broadway/Wellington

If I am not mistaken, there are three Threadless stores in Chicago. But this Broadway location is the only one I have been to and if you have ever been on their website… yeah. Not my type but some people might like it.

  • Marc by Marc Jacobs - Wicker Park

No I am not writing this down to scare you. Despite their high price range for Marc Jacobs, MxMJ has a lot of cheap items. You can get basic shirts (and some OCBDs) for $20-50, and they have other basics under $30 as well. But if you feel like spoiling yourself once in a while, their Ready to Wear isn’t that pricey at all.

If I think of some other places, I’ll edit this list.

What are some of your favorite shops to hit while you're out and about in Chicago? Doesn't matter if it's for clothes, books, or anything else.

There’s also a consignment shop on Clark by my place, but can’t think of the name of it. It’s by that fancy bakery and they have some goods from time to time.
I wish I could list more places here, but Chicago lacks when it comes to clothing places that I truly like.
For books, I just go to my school’s B&N bookstore (or U Chicago’s, if I have time).

OH and Logan Square Farmers Market.
